Trisaetum Story and 1% For The Planet:
When Andrea and I started Trisaetum in 2003, we had two simple goals: the first, make a living; and the second, create something we could pass along to our grandchildren. Since our own children were toddlers at the time, we knew grandchildren were a long way off; but the mindset of doing things with a long-term vision was important.
Focusing on the health of our estate vineyards is a vital part of building and growing the business for multiple generations, and the longer the time horizon in a vineyard, the better. Short-term fixes like spraying herbicides or pesticides, tilling to bare soil, mowing ground cover or irrigating may result in a short-term gain, but the long-term consequence of those choices is the creation of an imbalanced, monocultural ecosystem. We believe a healthy, diverse, wild and somewhat messy vineyard is not only a positive environmental choice, but an ecosystem that will create far more interesting and complex wines over time.
As our vineyards, and our business, matured; we began discussing how best to give back to the environment beyond our emphasis on organic and sustainable farming. Fortunately, we found an ideal partner in 1% for the Planet and we joined the 1% Network in late 2019.
We wanted to find local non-profits with whom we could actively partner, and expand our wholistic farming philosophy. Through our relationship with 1% for the Planet, we have decided to partner with two amazing, Oregon-based non-profit organizations: Bee Girl and the Oregon Oak Accord. We welcome you to learn more about these organizations, and the wonderful things they are doing for our environment, by clicking on the links to their websites.
For any business, donating 1% of revenue is a significant commitment, but we believe it is an essential part of doing business the right way; and an important part of the legacy we want to leave behind.
